Becoming a Parish Councillor
As a Parish Councillor, you will be at the heart of local democracy, representing the interests of residents and working to improve the quality of life in our community. This is a voluntary position, but the impact you can make is invaluable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Community Engagement: Listen to and represent the views of local residents.
- Decision Making: Participate in council meetings and contribute to discussions on local issues.
- Project Involvement: Help plan and oversee community projects and initiatives.
- Policy Development: Assist in developing policies that benefit the parish.
- Collaboration: Work with fellow councillors, local authorities, and community groups.
What We’re Looking For:
- Commitment: A genuine interest in local issues and a desire to make a positive impact.
- Time: you’ll need to prepare for and attend the monthly meetings so between 4 to 6 hours per month.
- Communication Skills: Ability to listen to residents and articulate their concerns effectively.
- Team Player: Willingness to work collaboratively with others.
- Integrity: Uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness.
- Willingness to Learn: Open to training and development opportunities provided by the council and NALC.
